A MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTER

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Southwest Chinese Baptist Church has started meeting in 1981 and constituted as an independent church on April 22, 1990 under Southern Baptist Convention. During the past over ten years, we have been worshiping the Lord first in a classroom, then in a fellowship hall and finally in a gymnasium inside our mother church, Westbury Baptist Church.

Acquiring a piece of land and building our own church has always been a dream of all Christians. Thank the Lord that under His gracious guidance, in January 1993, we purchased by cash a piece of land of over 11 acres located at West Airport and Sugar Ridge in Stafford, Texas to build our own church building.

King David encouraged his son, Solomon, and said: "... get to know the God of your father. Worship and serve him with a clean heart and a willing mind, ... be very careful, for the Lord has chosen you to build his holy temple. Be strong and do as he commands." (I Chronicles 28:9-10). Today we are honored by an opportunity bestowed by God to build a church in Houston area to glorify His name; let us remember that "... for the temple he (we) will build is not just another building -- it is for the Lord God himself!" (I Chronicles 29:1).

Let us unite our hearts and efforts and offer our resources to build His church to make our dream come true. It is not only for worshiping and fellowship, but also for providing the appropriate facility to serve our society and our fellow Chinese people so that it can become a light from the Lord to shine upon all people allowing them to receive the salvation.

Today, who is willing to offer himself or herself to God? May we all strive to offer our best in same degree of sacrifice but not in same amount.

Come, "Together We Build, United We Grow".

In Christ,
Rev. Peter Tuck-Soon Leong
Senior Pastor
