Facility Startup and Shutdown Procedure

FAMILY LIFE CENTER (FLC) BUILDING

Startup
• Unlock Door, remain unlocked during day time.
• Keep main entrance door closed to avoid heat/AC air loss.
• Key in passcode to turn off security alarm (or duress code being hostage). If alarm kicks off, call BERT immediately if you do not know the password or where to call to cancel the false alarm.
• Only turn on lights that the function required.
• For non-scheduled/non-regular function, turn on the AC or heat, only if necessary, by adjusting the programmable thermostats (4 in Foyer: 2 left for Gym Floor & 2 right for Classrooms, 1 inside Kitchen and 1 on Stage):
  either
  1. override the already programmed thermostat by using the "override" button located below the "up" and "down" arrow button (it is accessible without opening the covered panel);
  2. pressing the "override" button each time will increase the overriding time interval by 30 minutes (maximum is 4 hours), the time interval will be shown on the upper-left hand corner of the display;
  3. you should also see the Override indicator in the middle of the right-hand side on the display;
  4. set desired temperature using the "up" or "down" arrow button;
  5. the thermostat will return to its original ProgramOn mode automatically at the end of the overriding interval; therefore, you do not need to do anything when you leave.
     Note: If cancelling the Override is desired, keep pressing the "override" button until the time interval shown as "0".
  or
  1. set the programmed thermostat to AUTO, HEAT, or COOL mode using the "mode" button (the leftmost button underneath the covered panel of the thermostat);
  2. keep pressing the "mode" button until you see AUTO, HEAT, or COOL on the display;
  3. set desired temperature using the "up" or "down" arrow button;
  4. do not touch any other button if you do not know its function;
  5. you must set the programmed thermostat back to ProgramOn mode using the "mode" button before you leave.

• Relax and enjoy.

Shutdown
• Check all AC/heat programmable thermostats (4 in Foyer: 2 left for Gym & 2 right for classrooms, 1 inside Kitchen and 1 on Stage):
  
  • Make sure they are all in ProgramOn mode and fan is off (FanOn is not shown on the display).
  • They should not be in any other mode such as Off, AUTO, HEAT, or COOL mode, especially in freezing weather. Press the "mode" button (the leftmost button underneath the covered panel of the thermostat) until you see ProgramOn on the display.
  • If it is in Override mode (indicator in the middle of the right-hand side on the display), cancel it by keep pressing the "override" button until the time interval shown as "0". The "override" button located below the "up" and "down" arrow button (it is accessible without opening the covered panel).
  • Do not touch any other button if you do not know its function.

• Look around including the sound room, storage rooms, restrooms and classrooms to check:
  • all lights off except emergency and safety lights;
  • if any, all fan or machines off except safety fans;
  • listen for leaking water inside restrooms and kitchen if accessible;
  • smell for gas and look for open flame if any inside kitchen if accessible;
  • all classroom doors are closed;
  • doors to sound room, storage room and kitchen must be locked.
• There are safety lights inside the kitchen and both restrooms. A safety fan is inside the Janitor room in the Men's Restroom. All of them are supposedly to be on all the time and they can only be switched off from the breakers.
• Key in passcode to set security alarm. If alarm is malfunctioning, call BERT immediately.
• Lock Door.
• If you have to go back to the building, you need to wait at least 2 minutes before re-enter the building because the alarm may kick off if you open the door soon after you have set the alarm.
• Report to GBC if any parking lot or safety lights are malfunctioning or timer timing is way off.
• Close Main Entrance gate if you are the last one leaving the premises.
• Be alert, look around for suspicious activities, have cell phone ready in hand and try to pair up after dark.

Note: In case you/we fail to cancel the false alarm, stay calm and wait for the police to arrive and give your personal information to the officer. Call BERT immediately for further instruction.
